With the 2,000 Guineas only a day away, we take a look at the three horses currently placed in the betting markets to claim a win in the season’s first classic.
New Approach
Jim Bolger’s New Approach heads 2,000 Guineas betting markets at odds of 6/4. A brief look at this horse’s record shows just why New Approach is entering the 2,000 Guineas a strong favourite.
New Approach has won 5 out of 5 races that he has run, including the Darley Dewhurst stakes in October of 2007. The only thing counting against the favourite is that he has never won over a distance greater than 7 furlongs.
Raven’s Pass
John Gosden’s Raven’s Pass ranks second in the 2,000 Guineas ods tables at a price of 7/2. This thoroughbred has a strong record, having won 3 out of his 5 races.
Raven’s Pass has experience in mile races, and this may prove to be a crucial boost to his prospects of winning the 2008 2,000 Guineas. However it must be mentioned that Raven’s pass has twice run at Newmarket without winning.
Ibn Khaldun
The Godolphin syndicate have high hopes for their 4/1 priced 2,000 Guineas runner. Ibn Khaldun has won 4 out of 5 races run in his career including the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy.
Counting in Ibn Khaldun’s favour is the fact that he has run over a mile twice during his career, winning on both occasions.
