2,000 Guineas Betting

The 2,000 Guineas is one of the betting highlights of the flat racing season, giving punters their first glimpse of the season’s finest 3-year-old milers. Antepost markets have been open for several months.

In recent years punters have been burnt as short-odds favourites have struggled to make an impact on the race, and will be hoping that 2009 Racing Post Trophy winner, St. Nicholas Abbey, can make good of his antepost favourite status to win at Newmarket on the 1st of May.

2,000 Guineas Betting Tips & Trends

Odds: Betting markets have done a poor job of pinpointing the 2,000 Guineas winner in recent years with no horse in the top three winning for the past three years. A favourite has won the race just once in the last five years while two favourites placed in the race.
Jockey: Kieren Fallon has won the 2,000 Guineas twice in the past five years.
Trainer: Aidan O’Brien has a knack for training 2,000 Guineas winners, with three wins in the race in the past five years.
2,000 Guineas Tip: Have no qualms about laying the antepost favourite for this race as you’ll profit in the long term from a race prone to upset. If you do want to back an entry, have a look at horses in the 25/1 – 33/1 margin as these place or upset on a regular basis and return on place and each-way bets.
