2000 Guineas Betting Tips 2009

The 2000 Guineas is a challenge in terms of form betting because it’s the first Classic race of the season. Horses, jockeys and trainers who perform well here are those everyone will look to in the remaining Classics for the season. Still, bookmakers publish 2000 Guineas odds well in advance of the race, giving you time to scan for likely best performers, do your research and adapt your strategy! Take a look at our previous 2000 Guineas results pages to get an idea which trainers, jockeys and horses to look out for at Newmarket Racecourse in 2009.

For form betting, the important thing to look at for the 2000 Guineas is the performance of two-year-old colts over short-distance flat races in the preceding racing season. It’s speed and power, rather than stamina, that’s needed for the Rowley Mile Course at Newmarket. Familiarity with the NatWest Rowley Mile course is obviously also a plus.

Favourites in 2000 Guineas horseracing betting for 2009 will include horses from top 2000 Guineas jockeys and trainers. In any of the British Classic races, it’s repeat wins by trainers – rather than by particular horses – that you should bet on. This applies especially for the 2000 Guineas and other races restricted to three-year-olds – last year’s top-performing horses won’t be running.

2000 Guineas Betting Options

You can choose to bet on an outright race winner, on second, third and fourth positions in the 2000 Guineas, or on a combination of winner and position. A combination bet gives you a better chance, although the stakes will be smaller.

You can also choose to place your 2000 Guineas bets well in advance of the race, instead of among the crowds at totes on the day.
