Frankie Dettori

The only British Classic race that Frankie Dettori hadn’t won in his career was the Epsom Derby. Then, in June 2007, he took the Epsom Derby on Authorized, trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam. The next day, he also won the Prix du Jockey Club, on Lawman.
Frankie Dettori is retained by the famous Godolphin stables, and is known for his “flying dismounts”. He has ridden two winners in the 2000 Guineas – Mark Of Esteem in 1996 and Island Sands in 1999. Both horses were trained by Saeed bin Suroor.
In September 1996, Dettori made racing history when he won all seven races on a single day at Ascot. He is a four-time winner of the Ascot Gold Cup. In 2004, he was awarded the title of British Champion Jockey.
In addition to a win at the Epsom Derby and the 2000 Guineas wins, British Classic racing wins by Dettori include:
- the 1000 Guineas, twice – on Cape Verdi in 1998 and on Kazzia in 2002

- St Leger, four times – on Classic Cliché in 1995, Shantou in 1996, Scorpion in 2005 and Sixties Icon in 2006
Frankie Dettori has won the Queen Anne Stakes six times, the International Stakes five times, and the Coronation Cup, the Fillies’ Mile, the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes four times each.
