Saeed bin Suroor

Saeed bin Suroor, born in Dubai and a former policeman, has earned the title of British Champion Trainer a total of four times. He began training for Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin operation in 1995.
Horses trained by Saeed bin Suroor have won the 2,000 Guineas twice. In 1996, his Mark of Esteem – ridden by Frankie Dettori – took the race. In 1999, Island Sands – also ridden by Frankie Dettori won.
Suroor’s other British Classic wins include:
- the 1.000 Guineas, twice – with Cape Verdi in 1998 and with Kazzia in 2002
- the Epsom Derby with Lammtarra in 1995
- the Epsom Oaks, twice – with Moonshell in 1995 and with Kazzia in 2002
- St Leger, a total of four times – with Classic Cliché in 1995, Nedawi in 1998), Mutafaweq in 1999 and Rule of Law in 2004
Saeed bin Suroor has won the Ascot Gold Cup four times, with Classic Cliché in 1996, with Kayf Tara in 1998 and in 2000, and with Papineau in 2004.
His impressive list of repeat wins also includes:
- an amazing total of seven wins – four of which were in consecutive years – in the Queen Anne Stakes (with Charnwood Forest in 1996, Allied Forces in 1997, Intikhab in 1998, Cape Cross in 1999, Dubai Destination in 2003, Refuse to Bend in 2004 and Ramonti in 2007)
- five victories – of which three were in consecutive years – in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (with Lammtarra in 1995, Swain in 1997 and 1998, Daylami in 1999 and Doyen in 2004)
- four wins each in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, the Eclipse Stakes, the International Stakes and the Prince of Wales Stakes
