Pat Smullen

Pat Smullen currently tops the list of flat-racing jockeys, with a total of 90 wins in 2007. He won the 2000 Guineas in 2003, riding Dermot Weld-trained Refuse To Bend for the Moyglare Stud Farm.

Kevin Manning

Kevin Manning hasn’t yet secured a win in the 2000 Guineas, but is currently ranked as one of the five top jockeys in flat-racing. During the 2007 racing season, Manning secured a total of 59 wins out of 421 runs, with 38 second positions and 38 third positions. Also in 2007, Manning rode Finsceal Beo to victory in the 1000 Guineas, breaking the record for the fastest 1000 Guineas mile.

Frankie Dettori

A 2000 Guineas top jockey to watch is Frankie Dettori, working with top trainer Saeed bin Suroor for the famous Godolphin stables.

Frankie Dettori has ridden horses to 2000 Guineas victory twice, in 1996 and 1999. He has also won the 1000 Guineas, traditionally raced the next day, twice – in 1998 and again in 2002.

2000 Guineas Top Trainers to Back

Current top trainers in flat-racing to back in 2000 Guineas betting include the likes of Aiden O’Brien, Michael Stoute and Saeed bin Suroor.

Aiden O’Brien

Irish-born Aiden O’Brien is currently ranked as one of the top flat-racing trainers, with a total of 67 wins, 47 second positions and 43 third positions out of 349 runs. In 2007, O’Brien earned a whopping total of €5,104,480 in winning and place money.

O’Brien is the private trainer for John Magnier and his associates at Coolmore Stud, and heads the Ballydoyle Stables in County Tipperary. He has won the 2000 Guineas a total of four times. He also won the 1000 Guineas in 2005, with Virginia Waters.

Michael Stoute

Sir Michael Stoute is the only trainer in modern times to have won a British Classic race in five consecutive seasons. He has been awarded the title of Champion Trainer a total of nine times.

Stoute has won the 2000 Guineas a remarkable five times. Horses he’s trained have also won the 1000 Guineas twice, in 1989 and in 2003.

Saeed bin Suroor

Saeed bin Suroor, born in Dubai, has earned the title of British Champion Trainer a total of four times. He began training for Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin operation in 1995.

Suroor-trained horses have won the 2000 Guineas twice and the 1000 Guineas twice.

2000 Guineas Top Owners

Top owners to back include Sue Magnier, whose horse Henrythenavigator won in 2008. Other owners to watch out for at the 2000 Guineas are Michael Tabor, Moyglare Stud Farm, Godolphin and Hamdan Al Maktoum. Phil Cunningham’s Cockney Rebel won the race in 2007.
